Everything is bigger in Texas
The saying is true, everything was bigger in Houston. Roads were larger (8 lanes each way), almost everyone drove large trucks, portions were larger, etc. Things cost a little bit less, and after doing a little research I discovered that the job market is booming. We enjoyed our time here. The downside to Houston is that it is very hot compared to Boston, barely above sea level and has had flooding in the past. It was a bit strange to see water depth meters on the sides of highways under bridges and the like.
NASA mission control is based in Houston, and there is a space museum that we visited. I was sort of disappointed, I was hoping to learn more about the history of the program and the technologies they used but it was geared more for kids.
There was also a Star Trek movie prop, a shuttle that they used in the original series:
While we were here we checked out some real estate, houses are 1/3 (or less) the price that they are in Boston. So you can easily afford what would be a mansion back in Boston! With jobs paying 80% of what we would get back in Boston, it was easy to see why so many people are moving here! Jobs that pay almost as much, your money goes farther, and you can live an easier life (if you can stand the summer heat)!
